Curiosity deepens understandingÂ
Slowing the work downÂ
ABOUT MY SUPERVISION

Clinical work can be absorbing, demanding and, at times, difficult to make sense of. Â We may feel uncertain about how to proceed, caught in a particular dynamic with a client, or simply needing room to think about what is unfolding.

I see supervision as a place where we can slow the work down and become curious about it together. Â Rather than focusing on only what intervention to use next, we can think about the client, the therapeutic relationship, your responses as a clinician, and the wider context in which the work is taking place .Â

My aim is to offer supervision that is thoughtful and clinically rigorous, while also being warm, collaborative and respectful.Â
MY APPROACH TO SUPERVISIONÂ
Reflective, relational and clinically grounded
My clinical thinking is grounded in psychodynamic and interpersonal perspectives, shaped by my clinical training, my time at the Tavistock Clinic in London and by many years working in child and adolescent mental health. Â I am interested in what happens between people, and in how patterns of relating emerge in the therapeutic relationship.

Over time, my thinking has been enriched by contemporary understandings of trauma, the nervous system and mind-body processes. Â I bring these perspectives into supervision thoughtfully, rather than applying a single model to every client.Â

The purpose is not to tell you how I would do the work, but to help you think more deeply about yours, and develop a way of practicing that feels clinically sound and authentic to you.Â
WHO I SUPERVISEÂ
Supervision across a professional lifeÂ
For more than 30 years I have supervised psychologists, psychology registrars, psychotherapists and other mental health professionals, from those newly qualified to highly experienced practitioners. Â I have also developed supervision pathways and training programmes within public mental health services.

Supervision needs change over a career. Â Early on there may be more of a need for structure and for help bringing theory and clinical reality together. With experience, supervision often becomes a place for more nuanced reflection, for questioning established ways of thinking, and for staying curious. Â I adapt my approach accordingly.Â
WHAT WE MIGHT EXPLORE
Looking beneath the surfaceÂ
Supervision is shaped by your work, your experience and what you bring to each session. Â There is no fixed formula, but we might explore:

- Complex or challenging clinical presentations

- What is happening within the therapeutic relationship

- Patterns of relating, attachment and developmental experience

- Your own emotional responses to the work

- Trauma, regulation and nervous system responses

- Moments of uncertainty, stuckness or therapeutic impasse

- Boundaries and other clinical dilemmas

- Integrating different theoretical perspectives without losing coherence

- Your development and confidence as a clinicianÂ

THE SUPERVISION RELATIONSHIPÂ
A place where uncertainty can be thought aboutÂ
Good supervision doesn't always require an immediate answer. Â Some of the most useful supervision begins with uncertainty. Â Why am I feeling this way with this client? Why does the work feel stuck? Â What might we be missing?

I want supervision to be a place where uncertainty, mistakes, difficult feelings and questions can be brought openly and explored with curiosity rather than judgement, alongside challenge and clinical direction when these are helpful.
DEVELOPING YOUR OWN CLINICAL VOICEÂ
One of the things I value most in supervision is helping clinicians become increasingly confident in their own capacity to think.

My role is not to create clinicians who think as I do.Â
It is to provide a sufficiently thoughtful and challenging space in which you can develop your own clinical voice.
